Tim's Computer Specs

Curious about what kind of computer setup I'm running. No? Well, I'm going to tell you anyway. :-)

Laptop (Lapbert):
Linux Laptop info page coming soon
  • Dell Inspiron 5000e, Mobile PIII 750 MHz, 256 megs RAM, 10 gigs of Storage, ESS Maestro 2e Sound Card, Linksys PC Card NIC (Integrated Cardbus)
  • Mandrake 8.2 with KDE 3.0-final (Texstar's RPMs)
  • Windows ME (OEM Install) Mostly used to run WordPerfect 6.1.
Everything works very well under Linux. The only things I have not tested are the proprietary Winmodem drivers and the IDrA drivers. The sound card produces quality that rivals or surpasses the SB Live! using ALSA, and the ATI Rage Mobility video card works wonderfully with XFree86 4.x - even 3D accelleration at 700+ FPS!
A word of warning: It seems that Debian Woody is unable to load pcmcia-cs on my system, making a Debian netinst impossible at the moment. I recommend sticking to a distro such as Mandrake unless you feel like fiddling around with Debian setup disk configuration files and drivers.

Desktop (Dellbert):
  • Dell Dimension XPS R450 PII 450 MHz, 256 megs RAM, 56 gigs of Storage, SB Live! Sound Card, 3Com NIC
  • Debian 3.0 "woody" with these updates:
    • Kernel 2.4.17 (from Jens Benecke)
    • KDE 2.2.2 (from unstable)
    • XFree86 4.1
    • Misc. Stuff: KMMS (Packaged by Me)
  • Mandrake 8.1 Download Edition
  • OEone HomeBase Environment 1.1
  • Windows 2000 Professional
  • SuSE 7.1 Professional

Server (Fred):
  • Pentium 100 MHz system with 48 megs RAM, 2 gigs of storage, SoundBlaster 16 sound card, SOHOware NIC.
  • Currently waiting for "assignment."

Network
  • Linksys 4-Port Cable/DSL Router & Firewall (10/100 Switched Network)
  • Charter Pipeline 1.4Mbit (AVG) Downstream/128k Upstream Connectivity
  • 10/100 Fast Ethernet Cards (Linksys and 3Com), Linksys 10/100 Router.
